Apparently the code that you have downloaded must be older code which was written against older APIs (Application Program Interface) or the person that wrote it was using an older compiler.

It seems that your compiler can handle the older code, provided you add the command line switch "-deprecation" which will allow it to compile that code without any warnings or errors about older code.

1. You set up your arraylist wrong. ArrayList<String> list = new ArrayList<String>();

2. list[i] doesn’t work. You need list.get(i).charAt(0)

As for myself,

I will have a few drafts… From there, I decide which one of them I like best… Then, Recompile them as one… For instance, if I do not like a certain line in my poem… I will refer back to those drafts for something more suitable…

How about you?

Usually it starts with a topic for me. Then I just write and write until I feel I have nothing left to say. Next, I put it away for at least a week. After a week, I read it again, make changes and revisions, and put it away again. I repeat this until when I pick it up and read it, I’m satisfied.

Thanks, i tried the solution. I tried to change the version setting to 1.0.0.1. Compiled and register the same dll in the targer PC. And it still doesn’t work. Anyway, what is Global Assembly Cache? How to register dll into it?

It sounds like you are running into ‘versioning’ problems with .NET. First of all, to register your assembly in the Global Assembly Cache (GAC) you have to sign your assembly with a strong name. Your applications that use that assembly then reference the assembly.

The problem comes in if you do not specifically designate the version of your assembly. Look in the AssemblyInfo.vb, most specifically at the AssemblyVersion attribute. If this is set to something like "1.0.*", that will direct the Compiler to update the version number each time you compile.

Change the version to a specific number, like "1.0.0.1" and leave out the ‘*’. Even if you have a strongly named assembly with the same key, it will not work with other applications that have been compiled against a different version, which is changing every time you compile!
