I just got Absolute-linux (http://www.absolutelinux.org/) and it says its based off Slackware.
and i see wine (http://www.winehq.org/download/) that i want.

well I’m a noob with Linux, JUST got the thing installed on an old computer because I finally bought a little 100gb HDD at a garage sale. Anyways, as far as the Wine programing goes, i see Ubuntu and Debian, Redhat, SUSE, all of which are gibberish to me sorta. Is there wine availability for the Linux kernel I have, or will Ubuntu just be better?

I’ve heard Ubuntu is one of the leading "user friendly" ones, that still has advanced options for later. So without giving me a lecture on who is better, unless you feel I’m miss informed in which case please message me, here is what I’d plan to do with the computer.

games: such as world of warcraft (which is why wine is sorta needed) as well as step-mania (stepmania.com its a DDR game thing) as well as more modern games once i upgrade the system, like COD:MW and Diablo3 and such.
web browsing, and iTunes, burning MP3s and such.

i been a long time windows user, so it be great for wine to let me use a lot of the same programs I’m familiar with, although i know not all will work. So back to the OP, which wine do i use?
no its not at all i want windows – its that a few of my most common used programs are windows ones. id say a good 80% of the rest will be linux or Compiled apps and such. Just trying a new Kernal and w/e.

Give the Super OS a try. It is based on ubuntu with many addons already installed like Wine.
It is therefore larger than the "normal" ubuntu and must be burned to a dvd not a cd.
I would also suggest that you note the info that is presented during the install, and after install click on the blue question mark for help .
Good luck

Hi,

I want to buy RedHat Linux 5.1, but the nearby store has REDHAT CENTOS 5.4 VER. Is there any difference between them? I want the kernel to be 2.6.16+? Can i buy?

Thanks

Thanks

CentOS is a free rebuild of Redhat Linux.

As Linux is GPL it means anything Redhat develope must be released as source code which other people can then Compile which is where groups like Cent OS come from.

CentOS is a fairly stable OS, If your just stuffing around then give it a shot. it is free to download and i probably would not pay more than $ 10 for a DVD.

RedHat Linux is free software because of the GPL, However the Red Hat charges a service fee for providing support and a download of the product. Without paying the support charge i dont believe you can download it. costs about $150 last i looked.

Cent OS pretty Much = Red Hat

The analysis and exploit development were all completed within an hour. I can leak 512MB of kernel memory around a specific bitmap in the kernel. I demonstrate the leaking of the contents of two sysctl variables in the exploit, as well as the NUMA bitmap.

Source code will be released shortly — it’s a neat little bug, and I like the idea of deducing kernel memory one bit at a time via the return value of the system call

PS: SELinux did nothing to prevent this exploit

This is also the kind of parallelism that G.C.C vectorizer has been originally designed to target ([13], [15]). However, there are many kinds of important computations that cannot be vectorized if considering only the context of the loop. Figure 1a shows, for example, an unrolled loop, hand-optimized for a sequential machine, which is typical for multimedia kernels [9]. Other possible examples include structure accesses, such as R.G.B.A in image

The plug-ins we have developed are under the GPL, and we anticipate the possibility of enforcing the G.P.L on all G.C.C plug-ins by requiring plug-ins to export a function is_GPL which returns 1, analogously to the Linux kernels taint mechanism. Depending on G.C.C developer policy, returning 1 could be made mandatory in order for G.C.C to run the plug-in. In this paper, we demonstrate the simplicity and power of G.C.C transformation plug-ins. In Section 2, we describe the modi?cations to G.C.C that make plug-inbased development possible. In Section 3, we describe some plug-ins that we have already built using

Does not require an executable NULL mapping and is 100% stealthy. The vulnerability is interesting, as the path to userland code execution is about 4 functions deep and hidden by a netfilter macro. By forging the dereferenced structure correctly, I’m able to avoid an alerting printk. The exploit is demonstrated on Fedora Core 5 and RHEL 5.3.

Exploit was written in a matter of minutes after I reversed the path to userland code execution. 90% of the code is just reused from Cheddar Bay/Wunderbar Emporium. I have updated the SELinux disabling payload to support older kernels that Compiled a particular function differently.

Sorry, no fancy pictures or video in this one.
