intel core 2 duo versus AMD athlon 64 x 2 dual core?

Hi, i want to buy a laptop, i have one in mind called HCL (from India) with a Intel core 2 duo [1.5GHz] and there is another one from Compaq with AMD Athlon 64 X 2 dual core TK-55. Can someone please advise me for what processor to go with i.e should i go with the Intel core 2 duo or the AMD Athlon 64 x 2 processor. I will be using the laptop for wired and wireless networking, browsing the internet, programming, maybe play a few games not intensive graphics, play music, watch movies and maybe install RedHat Linux or Fedora. Thanks.

Intel Core 2 Duo is better.
