I just upgraded my Dell Dimension 8400 w/ 4 G of RAM (replaced 2 existing 512 slots with 1 G and added 1 G to remaining two slots). It seems like my computer isn’t utilizing RAM I’ve added.

I’m a developer, so I’m always using heavy memory users like SQL server and Visual Studio. Thus, I purchased 4G. There’s no reason why that shouldn’t be MORE than enough!

Can someone advise me on my performance issue?

For example, here’s my performance stats when my CPU usage was at 77%:

Totals ->> Handles 13383, Threads 638, Processes 59

Commit Charge ->> Total 675552, Limit 4817136, Peak 679104

Physical Memory ->> Total 3405920, Available 2664600, Cache 870520

Kernel ->> Total 112600, Paged 77444, Non Paged 35156

Here’s my computer info–> OS: XP Pro 2002 SP2, Intel Pentium 4 CPU, 3.4GHz, 3.39 GHz, 3.25 GB RAM.
Virtual Memory Setup –> Space Available 121915, Initial Size 1536, Max Size 3072

Please please help!

The performace of a system is based on all components, and the CPU, MB and RAM are the most important of them. I’d rather buy a better MB and CPU, than having a less capable MB/CPU with lots of RAM. The system will not use all of it’s RAM resurces if it not well-balanced.
