Kernel Bench

Kernel News and How To

I just got Absolute-linux (http://www.absolutelinux.org/) and it says its based off Slackware.
and i see wine (http://www.winehq.org/download/) that i want.

well I’m a noob with Linux, JUST got the thing installed on an old computer because I finally bought a little 100gb HDD at a garage sale. Anyways, as far as the Wine programing goes, i see Ubuntu and Debian, Redhat, SUSE, all of which are gibberish to me sorta. Is there wine availability for the Linux kernel I have, or will Ubuntu just be better?

I’ve heard Ubuntu is one of the leading "user friendly" ones, that still has advanced options for later. So without giving me a lecture on who is better, unless you feel I’m miss informed in which case please message me, here is what I’d plan to do with the computer.

games: such as world of warcraft (which is why wine is sorta needed) as well as step-mania (stepmania.com its a DDR game thing) as well as more modern games once i upgrade the system, like COD:MW and Diablo3 and such.
web browsing, and iTunes, burning MP3s and such.

i been a long time windows user, so it be great for wine to let me use a lot of the same programs I’m familiar with, although i know not all will work. So back to the OP, which wine do i use?
no its not at all i want windows – its that a few of my most common used programs are windows ones. id say a good 80% of the rest will be linux or Compiled apps and such. Just trying a new Kernal and w/e.

Give the Super OS a try. It is based on ubuntu with many addons already installed like Wine.
It is therefore larger than the "normal" ubuntu and must be burned to a dvd not a cd.
I would also suggest that you note the info that is presented during the install, and after install click on the blue question mark for help .
Good luck
